It was a game that wasn't ever really that close.
The Saskatoon Blades handled the injury-riddle Swift Current Broncos 6-2 tonight, despite missing some of their own key players to injury and sickness.
Now, let me explain the title....
The PBR Canadian Finals rodeo was in Saskatoon last week and apparently some of the dirt and mud from the show leaked onto the ice. The mess was just cleaned up before the game, but it did leave some rather ugly stains on the ice.
Anyways, the Blades got goals from Braeden Johnson, Chris Collins, Curtis Hamilton, Duncan Siemens, Stefan Elliott(GWG) and Jake Trask. Trask played a big role in the game, filling in for Marek Viedensky, who remains out with a concussion. He is expected back sometime on the upcoming BC road trip.
The Blades were also without 16 year old center Ryan Olsen, who had the flu.
Meanwhile, the Broncos got goals from Brad Hoban and Josh Derko (1st WHL goal). Swift Current, as mentioned, is an injury ravaged team. They currently have 4 forwards out of the lineup, along with 1 defenseman. They actually only dressed 10 forwards for tonight's game.
With the win, and a Kootenay loss tonight to Red Deer, the Blades move into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference @ 17-5-0-1.
Next up for the team, a home and home with the Raiders starting Friday night from Prince Albert. After those two games, the team takes off on their BC road trip.
